A year at our school
Gus Gordon Author visit
GIPS was lucky to have a visit from internationally acclaimed illustrator and author, Gus Gordon.
Gus spent the morning with all GIPS students where he talked about his books, how he creates his illustrations and stories, where his inspiration comes from, and even drew some special pictures to hang in our school library!
During this session Gus selected a few winners for the 'Story in a Picture' competition , these students received a personnaly signed Gus Gordan copy of 'Wendy'.
During the middle session, Gus ran an illustrator workshop in our library for selected students. This was a fantastic session where students had the opportunity to ask Gus questions, and to work on their own illustration skills and styles.
Representative Sport
Glen Innes Public School offers a wide range of representative sporting opportunities, sports include
AFL, Cricket, Netball, Rugby League, Soccer and Touch Football. We have dedicated and trained staff to help students harness their sporting potential all while learning skills and how to work a team.
Glen Innes Public School also helps foster the pathway for Regional and State opportunities, helping collaborate the Northern New England Zone for sporting teams.
Year 4 demonstrated outstanding behaviour, overcoming all sorts of new experiences with courage and care for one another. Our adventure to Thalgarrah was a chilly one, a very chilly one but the cold did not prevent us from having so much fun! From Orienteering to Digital Photography in the bush.
Students worked so well together in teamwork and explored the bush and surrounding area. Sleeping in cabins was a big adventure within itself and the students found the shower block and dorms all something new to explore, become confident with and demonstrate overcoming challenges in a short time.
Chess tournament
During Education Week 2025, GIPS hosted their first combined school, one-day chess extravaganza. We welcomed students from surrounding schools to take part in the day. There was a total of 32 students, ranging from Year 2 to Year 10. This day was a huge success, we are already looking forward to our next chess tournament in 2026.
